Ladies Don't Play Guitar

The band Tennis has a song called "Ladies Don't Play Guitar." About it, the singer says it's "sarcastic lyrics that came to me when I was thinking about the invisible way gender has shaped me. Like the fact that I was taught to play piano instead of electric guitar largely due to my being female." There are a lot of things it seems people think women can't do just because they're women. But we are proving that to be wrong. I'm working on this series of some of my favorite women in indie music to highlight that, depicting them in concert because I think they look really strong and powerful.

"Ladies don't play guitar
Ladies don't get down, down to the sound, do they
Maybe we can play pretend
Maybe I can go down deep just to be what you needed"
